In a significant healthcare infrastructure upgrade, Andhra Pradesh is set to revolutionize emergency medical services with the introduction of Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) in 24 government hospitals. This ambitious project, estimated at a cost of 600 crore, aims to address the critical gap in emergency healthcare, as starkly revealed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Health Department's release outlines a comprehensive plan to establish these CCBs, with 13 facilities expected to be operational by the end of December and the remaining 11 by August 2026. This timely initiative will add a substantial 1,275 beds across the state, with a well-distributed capacity of 50 beds in 22 hospitals, 75 in one, and a substantial 100 beds in another. Each 50-bed CCB will include a dedicated ten-bed ICU, a six-bed mini ICU, and specialized wards for maternity, isolation, and casualty, ensuring comprehensive critical care.

The CCBs are strategically located in 16 teaching hospitals, excluding Guntur, and in district hospitals at Tenali, Anakapalli, and Hindupur. Additionally, five area hospitals in Narasaraopeta, Palakonda, Rayachoti, Bhimavaram, and Chirala will also receive this upgrade. The construction costs vary, with 50-bed CCBs priced at 23.75 crore, the 75-bed facility at Narasaraopeta costing 36.35 crore, and the 100-bed CCB in Tenali District Hospital requiring 44.50 crore.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has emphasized the urgency of this project, ensuring that these facilities are operational by the set deadline. The CCBs will significantly enhance the state's medical response, catering to various critical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and dialysis issues, and offering specialized maternal and child healthcare. This initiative promises to be a game-changer, ensuring that Andhra Pradesh's healthcare system is better equipped to handle emergencies and provide quality care to all.
