Kanwar Yatra From July 11: No Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Iron Rods, DJs With Loud Music

Haridwar and Rishikesh prepare for staggering 5 crore devotees as massive security precautions are put in place for safe yatra

Devotees from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh will be able to collect Ganga Jal from July 11, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring safety as concerns remain due to a recent tragedy in Uttarakhand.

A meeting was conducted between officials from the Uttarakhand police and district administration in Haridwar to finalize the preparations for the safe yatra.

The administration has issued strict guidelines for the Kanwar Yatra this year, and any violations will lead to strict action, according to officials.

Devotees will not be allowed to enter the city with hockey sticks, baseball bats, or iron rods, and authorities have asked DJs to not use loud music during the Yatra.

Officials also said that any social or political gathering needs prior permission from the administration, and no unauthorized person will be allowed to administer sermons at the ghats.

After the tragedy in Chamoli's Chamakot, tight security will be ensured on the roads to prevent any accidents or untoward incidents, officials said.

A huge number of policemen will be deployed to ensure the safety of the devotees, and CCTV cameras have been installed at various points along the Haridwar stretch.

On Saturday, a group of enthusiastic Kanwar pilgrims from Rajasthan headed to Haridwar ahead of the official date of the Yatra. As they traveled, some of them hung onto the side of a moving helicopter, which was captured in a video that went viral on social media and immediately drew the attention of authorities.

Officials quickly clarified that no such activity would be tolerated during the Yatra, and strict action would be taken against anyone trying to do so. The video also led to concerns about the safety of the pilgrims during the Yatra in the state.

The annual Kanwar Yatra begins on July 11 this year, and authorities expect over five crore devotees from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh to travel to Haridwar and Rishikesh to collect Ganga Jal. Devotees believe that holy water from the Ganga River will help them purify their souls.

The Yatra will officially begin on July 11 and will continue until July 18. During this time, the authorities will be on high alert to ensure the safety of the devotees.
