An 80-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh was robbed of her savings by her house help and her husband through fraudulent means. After being suspicious, the woman reported the crime and filed a complaint.
Manisha Tyagi, the victim, reported that she suspected house help, Shaibal Kaur, and her husband, Balwant Singh, of stealing from her. Kaur had been hired to take care of Tyagi's husband, who passed away in July.
Tyagi's suspicions increased when she found out that Rs 18.5 lakh had been transferred from her account to Balwant Singh, and so she filed a complaint on October 25. Further investigation uncovered that Singh and Kaur had stolen Rs 80 lakh from Tyagi over the course of three years, using 13 cheques to themselves made out by Tyagi, as well as fraudulent online transactions.
The police have arrested both Kaur and Singh, and are investigating whether they have been involved in other fraudulent activities.
This unfortunate case shines a light on the importance of vigilance when it comes to our elderly relatives and loved ones. Let's ensure we take care of our treasured elders, and put a stop to crimes like this.
