Senior Pilot's Decision Under Scrutiny in Air India Crash

The crash of an Air India plane last year that killed 190 people on board has reignited allegations of negligence on the part of the airline and senior management, with a recent media report suggesting that the fuel flow to the engines was cut by the captain before the plane crashed. This claim, however, is yet to be established and no such findings have been reported in the preliminary investigation report.

The Boeing 777 aircraft, on its way from Dubai to Mumbai, crashed onto a residential building inKP Puram, killing all passengers and crew members in addition to people on the ground. The plane collided with the building, breaking into pieces, and ignited a fire that consumed several stories of the building.

According to the report by US-based safety watchdog Flightglobal, the pilot in command of the aircraft cut the fuel flow to the engines moments before the crash. If established, this action could suggest possible pilot error or a malfunction in the aircraft's systems.

However, the Indian government's preliminary investigation report, which was released in March, did not mention any such reduction in fuel flow. It instead attributed the crash to a "significant deviation" from standard operating procedures by the pilot monitoring, who was recording the wrong readings on the plane's instruments, causing the pilot flying to dramatically slow down the aircraft as it approached Mumbai.

The report also mentioned that the crew members were unable to identify the reason for the aircraft's erratic descent until it was too late to prevent the crash.

As the investigation continues, the findings of the Flightglobal report, if true, could potentially shed new light on the moments leading up to the crash and bring attention to possible negligence or errors on the part of the pilots and the airline.

The tragic accident continues to impact many people directly and indirectly, and the ongoing investigation will hopefully lead to clearer answers and measures to ensure such a tragedy is avoided in the future.
