Calling for the continuation of Operation Sindoor, the MIM floor leader, Owaisi, has taken a swipe at the central government over the attack in Pahalgam alleging serious security lapses. This comes as a signal of the increasing tension and conflict that is looming over the Hindu-majority region of Kashmir.

The Muslim leader demanded revenge for the attack in Pahalgam and commented on the current situation, stating it is a successful example of the Modi governments security lapse. He further implied that Operation Sindoor, which entailed a systematic cleansing of the Valleys forests driving out Pathan militants, should be carried out in the region to ensure the safety of the residents.

The central government, which has yet to address the situation in Pahalgam, has not commented on the issue. Operations Sindoor was initiated in November 2020, post the revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to eliminate terrorists hiding in the forests of the state. However, the operation was suspended by the local administration in June this year citing the arrival of tourists and a possibility of collateral damage.

With the latest call to reinstate the operation, it remains to be seen how the central government will address the security concerns in the region. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, the government will have to make a choice between prioritizing civilian safety or military action in the troubled region of Kashmir.
