Taj Mahal Visitor Says 'Shri Ram' Bag Caused Entry Denial, Authorities Clarify Prohibited Items

A tourist from Kanpur claims his entry into the Taj Mahal was barred due to his bag bearing the print of 'Shri Ram', but authorities say the denial was due to prohibited items being carried. This incident has raised concerns regarding the country's religious biases and its national tourist attraction management.

Narrating his experience on Sunday, the visitor, who has opted to remain anonymous, stated that after he cleared the security check at the eastern gate of India's renowned Taj Mahal, he was about to enter when a guard pointed at his bag and refused to let him in. The guard allegedly told him that his bag had the print of "Shri Ram" on it, which was enough reason to deny entry. Shocked and angered by the discrimination, the man and his family departed, wishing to avoid any unpleasant scene. He later recorded his complaint at the local police station.

However, authorities have provided a very different explanation. As per the Archaeological Survey of India's (ASI) rules, folding chairs, knives, sharp objects, and flammable materials are prohibited within the premises of the Taj Mahal. The man's bag had a folding chair, one of the banned items. The authorities have categorically refuted any bias or religious motive behind the entry denial.

The man's allegation has sparked concerns regarding the management of the country's national treasure, the Taj Mahal, and the biased attitude prevailing in the country, regardless of an individual's religion or beliefs. It remains to be seen whether the authorities will review the prohibited items list to ensure that tourists can enjoy their visit to the Taj Mahal without non-security related barriers.
