TheTelangana government has proposed generating 1,000 MW of solar power byencouraging women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to set up solar power plants.
Thestate’s energy and rural development departments have reached an agreement tomove forward with this plan. On Wednesday, State Deputy Chief Minister MalluBhatti Vikramarka, accompanied by other ministers, met with district collectorsand officials to discuss the initiative, as per an official release.
Vikramarkaannounced that tenders for the solar plants would be finalized soon andinstructed district officials to identify land for SHGs to establish theplants. He also emphasized the importance of coordinating with banks to providefinancial support to these groups.
TheDeputy CM highlighted the Congress government's commitment to making one crorewomen crorepatis within five years, noting that interest-free loans are beingprovided to women on a large scale. He urged officials to help SHGs maximizereturns through investment in various businesses.
Vikramarkafurther suggested the installation of solar power plants on large buildings inurban areas like Hyderabad and recommended considering locations in the hillyterrain of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts to safeguard government lands.
Additionally,he encouraged raising awareness among farmers about the PM-KUSUM scheme, underwhich they can generate up to 2 MW of solar power. Farmers will be able toapply for this scheme through the Telangana Renewable Energy DevelopmentCorporation (TGREDCO) portal.
Thisinitiative is expected to not only provide affordable power but also contributeto the generation of clean, pollution-free energy.
