The rehabilitation centre is an important space for stroke survivors to find recovery, and a new student design competition aims to improve these spaces even further. The "Next Generation of Stroke Rehabilitation Centres" competition, launched by the International Union of Architects and the UIA Public Health Group, challenges students to design a space for 30 stroke survivors that embraces new and ambitious ideas for rehabilitation. The competition aims to create spaces that allow stroke survivors to recover in a supportive environment that caters to their needs, and is the result of collaboration with the NOVELL Redesign team.

Currently, stroke survivors may stay in rehabilitation for a long time, and this creates a need for spaces that support and improve recovery. Therefore, the competition focuses on optimizing the design based on research outcomes in order to best meet the needs of those recovering from a stroke. The competition is sponsored by the UIA and the Australian Health Design Council.

It is expected that the competition will receive many submissions from across the world, and the winners will be announced at the end of the year.

"The 'Next Generation of Stroke Rehabilitation Centres' competition is an exciting opportunity for students to apply research and innovation in design to address the needs of stroke survivors and their caregivers," said the UIA Public Health Group in their recent statement.
