Five key drug suspects taken down in Cebu Camotes Islands ops
Cebu police smashed a drug network and seized over Php 7.5 million worth of shabu in a series of operations in Camotes Islands.
In just one day, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 and the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) arrested five high-value drug targets in Camotes Islands in Cebu. The successful joint operations, which took place on Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22, 2025, resulted in the dismantling of a major drug trafficking network in the area.
The operations were conducted to maintain San Francisco's drug-cleared status, achieved in May 2022. However, the recent operations resulted in the seizure of over 1.1 kilos of shabu, valued at around P7.65 million, from the five suspects.
"The operation was unusual because it dismantled a large network trafficking illegal drugs across the Camotes Islands," CPPO Director Col. Christopher Bermudez said.
The five suspects are now facing illegal drug selling charges, which carry penalties of life imprisonment and fines ranging from P500,000 to P1 million.
In a statement, PDEA 7 Director Vincent Gawilan expressed his satisfaction with the operations' results and praised the effectiveness of the inter-agency cooperation. He vowed to continue targeting high-value drug suspects and disrupting their operations to ultimately eradicate the nation's drug problem.
"This is only the first step towards our goal of making Cebu drug-free," he said. "We will continue to collaborate with our partners and pursue proactive and aggressive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all Cebuanos."
