Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal reviewed the public grievance redressal system of Delhi Police on November 15. In response, he directed the police to train officers in better communication and empathy to improve the public interface.
The Delhi Police made a presentation detailing the system's operation. They informed the LG that they receive complaints in written and online formats from various sources. It was also detailed that every complaint, whether from individuals or authorities, is digitized and tracked via the Complaints Monitoring and Tracking System (CMTS) module.
To improve the public atmosphere, police stations have public facilitation desks. These desks are designed to listen to complaints with empathy and guide complainants to appropriate departments. According to the presentation, there are 160 territorial police stations with these desks.
Specialized vigilance units have also been established to handle complaints against police personnel at the district level. Delhi Police have helpline numbers open 24/7 to handle calls related to emergencies, women, and senior citizens.
In light of these systems, the LG directed Delhi Police to embark on training to improve public interface and complaint resolution at all levels.
