Indian leaders at the World Economic Forum emphasized the evolution of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India from cost-driven hubs to global innovation centers. They highlighted the crucial need for continuous upskilling of the Indian workforce to maintain this momentum.
Telangana's IT Minister, D Sridhar Babu, underscored the state government's efforts in establishing "Skills' University" to facilitate industry-driven training and upskilling programs. He emphasized the importance of harnessing India's abundant talent and fostering a culture of innovation.
Nadir Godrej, Chairman of Godrej Industries, highlighted India's strengths in ESG, green energy, and a vibrant startup ecosystem. He advocated for stronger collaboration between academia, government, and industry to further strengthen GCCs.
Sanjeev Krishan, Chairperson of PwC India, acknowledged the shift from cost arbitrage as the primary driver for GCCs in India. He emphasized the importance of inclusive growth and ensuring that the benefits of GCCs are distributed across the country.
Girish P Ramachandran, President-Growth Markets at Tata Consultancy Services, proposed collaborations with global partners in skill development initiatives like the Skill India Mission. He also highlighted the growing talent pool across India and the country's leadership in digital transformation as key factors attracting global investments.
In essence, the leaders concurred that with continued focus on innovation, upskilling, and inclusive growth, Indian GCCs will play a pivotal role in driving global progress.
