A man has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly killing his wife and mother-in-law after a dispute that started over birthday gifts for his son. The man, identified as 34-year-old Krishna Kumar, is being held in police custody and has confessed to the crimes, saying that his wife refused to accept the birthday gifts he had bought for their son and that his mother-in-law insulted him.
According to the police, Kumar admitted to beating his wife with a baseball bat in a fit of rage and then stabbing his mother-in-law when she attempted to come to her daughter's defense. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, but they died from their injuries.
Kumar's arrest came after a neighbor called the police late Sunday night after overhearing the couple's argument and subsequent violent assault. Officers arrived at the scene to find the victims bloodied and beaten, and Kumar still at the scene, holding the baseball bat.
This tragic incident sheds light on the alarming rate of violence against women in India, where domestic disputes are often a precursor to horrific acts of violence.
