Young women in Bathinda, India, are facing a surge in harassment, with culprits using foul language and even making indecent gestures at girls and women going about their daily business.
Many concerns have been raised regarding the safety of women during the Ganesh festival. In response, the Hyderabad City Police have announced rigorous measures to ensure safety for all, particularly women and children. From August 29 to September 5, the Telangana Police Women Safety Wing will implement round-the-clock security throughout the city.
Hyderabad police have hired female constables to join the city's mounted force, a historic first marking gender inclusion in modern policing. Ten women completed two months of rigorous riding and field training, and will now work alongside their male counterparts in law-and-order maintenance, VIP security, crowd control, and city patrolling. The initiative has been praised by Commissioner of Police CV Anand, who expressed pride in Hyderabad police and hopes other states will follow suit.
